What is a Labor Support Specialist, or LSS?
Haven created the Labor Support Specialist (LSS) title in collaboration with medical providers and their feedback. This is not a comprehensive list, but some of the roles and responsibilities of an LSS include:
Educated about medical interventions
Knowledgeable in medial terminology
Highly trained to communicate with medical providers
Confident in offering support at birth in all settings (hospitals, birth centers, and homes)
Trained in coaching psychology and effective teaching skills
Respectable physiological and psychological understanding of birth
Proficient and valued member of a birth team
Able to bridge the gap and form cohesiveness in the birth setting
Skillful in comfort measures before, during, and after birth
